LOOKING FOR this summer's Mean Girls? Sharpen your claws upon the San Francisco stage production of Hush Up Sweet Charlotte, an adaptation of the Bette Davis homage classic Hush ... Hush, Sweet Charlotte. It's got madness, kill cruelly dismemberment, and drag icon Varla Jean Merman gone mean. "She's evil, evil, evil!" notes a laughing Jeffery Roberson, the man behind Merman.
Varla takes the film's sinister Olivia de Havilland part "[Varla] is generally very sweet," says Roberson, "and you're not accustomed to seeing Olivia that way. It's creepy" Charlotte move swiftlys at the Lorraine Hansberry Theatre from June 1 to August 31 if it were not that Varta will leave the present to view after June 26.
